64 Slice CT Heart Scan Cost

The average cost of a 64 Slice CT heart scan ranges from $750 to $1500.  This is the price that you might pay if you were to walk into a Heart Scan Center without any insurance benefits.  Each center is different, and you should call around to determine which 64-slice heart scan center has the best price.

For patients with insurance, the cost is considerably lower.  You should be able to find out the cost of a scan before the exam is performed by speaking with your insurance company before the exam is performed.

In general, most 64-slice CT heart scans produce similar results, and there is not a large difference between manufacturers of the scanner equipment.  Other MDCT scanners use a lower number of detectors.  These scanners are usually 4 or 16 slice, and do not produce the images same level of quality as 64-row detector scanners.

The most important consideration is what is done after the scan is completed.  The images are not useful unless interpreted by a skilled physician, who can then make recommendations based on the scan.  For this reason, you should speak with your physician (preferably a cardiologist) before the scan is completed.  In addition, there are considerable side effects associated with computed tomography, and it is important that the benefits outweigh the risks of the exam.
